We Can Build You (1972)
Although published in 1972, We Can Build You was the first SF novel written around 1958-1960 after Philip K. Dick's foray into mainstream. The novel remained unpublished (rejected by publishers) until 1970 when it was published in Amazing Stories under the title "A. Lincoln Simulacrum" (its original title was "The First in Our Family") after Dick's editor, Ted White, added a final chapter (with Philip K. Dick's approval) to the story that lacked an ending. The added chapter was later removed, as per PKD's request, when the novel was published as a book. (From a letter of Ted White to the PKD society, published in the PKDS newsletter #6, 04/1985).
