Philip K. Dick wrote more than 120 short stories, with much of his output concentrated in the early 1950s. His first published science-fiction story, “Beyond Lies the Wub,” appeared in Planet Stories in 1952. Stories continued to appear throughout his career, while several previously unpublished works reached readers after his death, notably in the five-volume Collected Stories (1987).

Ranging from darkly comic fantasies to unsettling visions of the future, these stories explore artificial life, altered memories, political control, and the uncertain boundaries of reality. Beneath their inventive premises lie questions about empathy, survival, and what makes us human. Many have been adapted for film and television, bringing his ideas to audiences far beyond the printed page. This section traces the stories through their first magazine and anthology appearances, later collections, translations, and cover art.
