The Galactic Pot-Healer follows Ubik chronologically and continues to delve into the spiritual world with Glimmung a god-like entity at the center of the story. While the story is set in a dystopian oppressive world like many of PKD's novels, this book stands apart in his oeuvre with its description of a surreal underwater world.
"What could an omnipresent and seemingly omnipotent entity want with a humble pot-healer? Or with the dozens of other odd creatures it has lured to Plowman's Planet? And if the Glimmung is a god, are its ends positive or malign? Combining quixotic adventure, spine-chilling horror, and deliriously paranoid theology, Galactic Pot-Healer is a uniquely Dickian voyage to alternate worlds of the imagination." (back cover of Vintage edition)
The names Glimmung and Plowman's Planet were also used in PKD's children book Nick and the Glimmung written in 1966.
